New energy efficiency agreement for the real estate sector – Auroranlinna also participating

The real estate sector continues its strong commitment to energy efficiency. In addition to us, more than 30 companies and organizations in the field have already joined the new energy efficiency agreement, which will start in 2026. The agreement has proven to be an effective way to reduce both energy consumption and climate impact. The goals of the current agreement period, ending at the end of this year, have already been reached ahead of schedule.

Rakli has signed a new ten-year agreement (2026–2035) with the Ministry of Employment and the Economy, the Ministry of the Environment and the Energy Authority. The agreement defines the overall energy-saving targets for the real estate sector, helping Finland move toward fulfilling the obligations of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive.

Since the built environment accounts for approximately 30% of Finland’s climate emissions, improving energy efficiency in the real estate sector is a significant step toward a more sustainable future.

Major savings through voluntary measures

During the current agreement period (2017–2025), the real estate sector has saved an impressive 821 gigawatt-hours of energy annually by the end of 2024. This means annual savings of about 58 million euros.

Energy efficiency agreements are a jointly chosen tool of the Finnish government and various industries to implement the EU Energy Efficiency Directive through voluntary measures. These agreements enable Finland to meet roughly 40% of its national energy-saving obligation for the years 2021–2030.

The agreement also provides participating organizations with information, support and a peer network to help them reach their goals.
